Poker is addictive because it provides extreme excitement. There is a feeling of intense pleasure when you win a big pot.  When you bluff players and win with the worst hand, it is a big dopamine boost in your brain. This is why you must have exceptional self control. You should have enough will power to fight the urge to play too many hands, chasing that high. Also since higher stakes generate higher excitement, you must be careful not to play beyond your means. 50c/$1 limit may not sound like much. You can lose $100 in a day at those tables if you are a beginner not knowing what you are doing. But with some experience, you can also snatch the cash from newbies venturing into the real money tables. Start with 25c/50c limit.
